to help crack down on job interview no-shows, first-day ghosting, and unexplained job refusals
Ontario Approved Professionals Inc. is calling on all levels of government to launch a 24/7 Employer-Reporting Portal to help crack down on job interview no-shows, first-day ghosting, and unexplained job refusals.
The proposed system would allow businesses to report incidents using a secure CRA Business Number. Reports would trigger an immediate EI eligibility review, and in some cases, a temporary suspension of benefits until clarification is provided.
The plan also includes anonymized data sharing with schools and workforce boards to help improve job-readiness programs and steer young people toward in-demand trades careers.
The organization says this won't hurt real job seekers, but will stop people from abusing EI rules that already disallow rejecting suitable work.
"Actively looking isn’t the same as actually working," the group says, urging action to support struggling employers and taxpayers.
