GameStop is focusing on trading cards, collectibles, and other high-return items, leaving its brick-and-mortar future uncertain
GameStop is closing hundreds of stores across North America in early 2026, and the Brockville location has already shut its doors. Estimates show nearly 400 stores have closed or are in the process of closing, with more expected before the end of January.
The retailer, known for console games, systems, and collectibles, has struggled as digital downloads replace physical game discs. In 2024, GameStop closed 590 locations and said in a December 2025 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that additional closures were planned for fiscal 2025.
While the closures are confirmed mostly by employees and customers, a crowd-sourced website is tracking affected locations.
