Economic growth is going strong in Leeds and Grenville
At the latest Committee of the Whole meeting, Ann Weir, Manager of Economic Development, shared highlights from the latest quarterly update.
In 2024, staff made 51 business visits—well above the annual goal of 24 to 36. Nine more visits have already happened in 2025.
Small business support also hit big numbers. In 2024, there were 1,275 enquiries and 296 consults.
Weir says the counties also made some special presentations.
Lynn Laming-Kerr of Kitley Grocery received the Lifetime Achievement Award at special Inernational Women's Day event.
Ten local businesses graduated from the Starter Company Plus support program, with seven more set to graduate March 27, 2025.
On the workforce front, Weir says the Regional Economic Development through Immigration pilot program (or REDI) drew 92 enquiries and 65 attendees to an
info session.
Weirs says they're still waiting to hear from the province when the first draws will be made available, but overall feedback on the project has been positive.
It was also noted that the Counties' Economic Development Summit and Business Support Working Groups continue to be sold out or well-attended by participants.
