The food drive is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Real Canadian Superstore
Today is the All Hands on Deck Food Drive from 10-6 at the Real Canadian Superstore in support of the Brockville and Area Food Bank.
Non-perishable food items and monetary donations are being accepted for the food bank so they can re-stock the shelves and have what they need for the kids who are getting ready to head back to school.
Food Bank Manager, Amanda Petch says they double up on items in the summer time because there are no food programs for the kids outside of the school year. She says cereal is a big item in particular, and is purchased on a weekly basis.
Petch adds that the food bank sees over 500 kids per month.
Donations slow down significantly in the summer, but local farms are here to help as well, she says.
The need continues to grow after the food bank saw a 49% increase in visits from last year in July.
Petch thanks the community for their never ending support.
