Wren said the one-way plan may cause more problems than it solves
Brockville Mayor Matt Wren has changed his mind about making Apple Street a one-way northbound road after hearing concerns from local residents.
Although a city survey showed nine people supported the idea, Wren said the one-way plan may cause more problems than it solves.
Residents have long raised issues about poor sightlines at the Apple and Water Street intersection and speeding on Water Street, especially at night.
However, city staff say data does not show speeding is a major problem, calling it mostly a perception issue.
Staff originally recommended the one-way option instead of an all-way stop, but some council members now support adding a four-way stop to improve safety.
Mayor Wren and city staff will work together on new traffic solutions before the next council meeting on Tuesday.
The city also plans a new pedestrian crosswalk at Ormond Street and Charlotte Place to improve safety in the area.
