Motorcycle Safety Awareness Week is underway

OPP is calling on all road users to make safety a priority

As Motorcycle Safety Awareness Week begins (May 1–7), the OPP is calling on all road users to make safety a priority and help prevent a repeat of last year’s tragic toll, which saw a record 57 motorcyclists lose their lives on OPP-patrolled roads.

Speeding, loss of control, failure to yield, improper passing, and driver inattention were the most common factors in these fatal incidents. Tragically, 18 of the motorcyclists who died were not at fault—underscoring the reality that even the most responsible riders remain at risk when others fail to drive with care and awareness.

Motorcyclists aged 25 to 34 accounted for the highest number of fatalities (15), followed by 12 deaths among riders aged 65 to 74.
