Ontario advances electricity transmission planning for eastern Ontario growth
The Ontario government is moving forward with electricity transmission planning to support economic growth in Leeds & Grenville and eastern Ontario, officials announced Wednesday.
The announcement was made at Greenfield Global's Johnstown facility with Minister of Energy and Mines Stephen Lecce.
Local leaders including Greenfield Plant Manager Brendan Bland, United Counties of Leeds and Grenville Warden Corinna Smith-Gatcke, Township of Leeds and The 1000 Islands Mayor, and Edwardsburgh/Cardinal Mayor Tory Deschamps attended.
Officials said increasing electricity supply is essential to help the region grow and support existing businesses.
The government is working with the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) on the next steps for transmission planning.
The event highlighted opportunities for economic development in eastern Ontario and the importance of collaboration between local leaders, the provincial government, and industry partners.
