Ontario commits $2.5 million to upgrade Merrickville water and wastewater systems

The funding comes from the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream, part of Ontario’s $4-billion MHIP, which aims to build homes, create jobs, and strengthen communities across the province

The Ontario government is investing $2,558,216 to improve water and wastewater infrastructure in Merrickville-Wolford, officials announced Wednesday.

Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, said the funding will support the Wellington Street West reconstruction project and help modernize essential infrastructure for residents and businesses.

“This investment is helping modernize the core water and wastewater infrastructure that residents and businesses in the historic village rely on, while protecting the environment and water quality,” Clark said.

Mayor Michael Cameron thanked the province, saying the grant reduces financial pressure on local water and wastewater users and supports safe, resilient infrastructure in a smaller rural community.
