Liberals now have 100 days to get Canadian taxpayers their money back
Canadians could soon get their money back after a motion passed in Parliament demanding the Liberal government recover $64.5 million linked to the ArriveCan app.
The motion gives the government 100 days to return the funds. The money was paid to GC Strategies, the main contractor behind ArriveCan. But last week, Canada’s Auditor General reported there was no proof the company did any work for that payment.
Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MP Michael Barrett shared the news on social media. He called it a win for taxpayers and said Canadians deserve accountability.
“This is a major win in order to get Canadians their money back,” Barrett said in his video post.
The ArriveCan app was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic to track travelers entering Canada. But the project has faced heavy criticism over its costs and lack of transparency.
