Cyclists should avoid sidewalks
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding the public that road safety is a shared responsibility for both drivers and pedestrians.
Pedestrians walking or jogging, especially after dark, are encouraged to wear bright or reflective clothing and use sidewalks where available. If sidewalks are not present, walking facing traffic on the road shoulder is advised. Cyclists should avoid sidewalks.
Drivers must stay alert for pedestrians, yield at school crossings and marked pedestrian crossovers, obey speed limits, and avoid distractions.
The OPP emphasize that by following these safety measures, all road users can help prevent accidents and ensure everyone gets home safely. Road safety is a team effort, and awareness from both motorists and pedestrians is key.
