Solicitor General of Ontario discusses the benefits
Ontario is expanding its Basic Constable Training program, adding a temporary site in Cornwall to help train more officers and keep communities safe.
The program, which begins October 6 at the DEV Hotel and Conference Centre, will allow for an additional 121 recruits, bringing the fall intake to 641.
Solicitor General Michael Kerzner highlighted the importance of expanding access to training, noting the move will highly benefit Eastern Ontario.
Kerzner further explained why it is important for officers to have easier access to programs that prepare them for frontline service.
He added that the expansion is part of a larger effort to keep Ontario safe.
The training runs until December 17, when recruits will take part in the March Past and Review Ceremony.
The expansion is expected to strengthen recruitment, improve public safety, and give Eastern Ontario a greater role in officer training.
