The Rotary Club of the 1000 Islands and the Rotary Club of Brockville joined forces for the 16th annual Rotary Harvest Sharing Food Drive over Thanksgiving weekend, collecting 9,580 pounds of food and more than $18,000 in donations.

The effort supports the Brockville and Area Food Bank, which serves 60 to 100 families each day. This year’s total surpassed 2024’s results of 8,412 pounds and $17,507.

Food Bank General Manager Amanda Petch said community need has surged, with one in 13 residents now requiring help — up from one in 24 just two years ago. About 27 per cent of clients are children, and many adults work full-time.

Volunteers gathered donations at the Real Canadian Superstore and received extra help from local schools and businesses.

Mayor Matt Wren thanked Rotarians for their efforts, calling the drive vital as Brockville continues to face rising food insecurity.
