Sidewalks are cleared within provincial timelines, while crews also monitor potholes and roughly 3,200 stormwater catch basins during freeze-thaw cycles
Brockville’s winter maintenance crews have been working around the clock as snow, ice and rain continue to challenge the city. Since Dec. 17, about 65 centimetres of snow has fallen, along with freezing rain and rain, while temperatures swung between –13 C and +7 C.
The City of Brockville says Public Works staff are operating 24/7 under the city’s Winter Maintenance Policy, which follows provincial standards set by Ontario Regulation 239/02. Roads are cleared by priority, with major routes, bus roads, schools and hospital areas handled before residential streets.
Plowing timelines depend on road class and snowfall totals, with work beginning as soon as snow starts. Contractors are used when needed, particularly on residential streets, and during snow removal operations.
Sidewalks are cleared within provincial timelines, while crews also monitor potholes and roughly 3,200 stormwater catch basins during freeze-thaw cycles.
With snowfall now on pause, the city says snow removal is underway.
