St. Lawrence College support staff join Ontario college strike in Brockville

The strike began yesterday

More than 10,000 full-time support workers at Ontario’s 24 public colleges, including St. Lawrence College in Brockville and Kingston, have walked off the job in a strike that began yesterday (Sep. 11).

Sherri Haley, the OPSEU staff rep explains what they're looking for.

At SLC here in Brockville, Picket Captain Crystal Baker explains how this impacts the students.

Baker says they're already seeing lots of cuts to services and feels that the Ford government's plan to privatize the post-secondary education system would be detrimental to the students.

Is the Brockville campus in danger of closing anytime soon? Crystal says she doesn't see it.

She says that the college continues to do research on what the community needs and is optimistic about future programs being added.

All campuses remain open and classes are continuing as scheduled.

Students are urged to keep monitoring their college email and the SLC website for updates throughout the strike.
