The Parks of the St. Lawrence are officially open for 2025 camping reservations, welcoming nature lovers to enjoy Eastern Ontario’s scenic riverfront. This year, special attention is on the Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary—a vital refuge for countless migratory species and a hidden gem within the parks system.

Located just over an hour from Ottawa, the Sanctuary provides a critical stopover for birds such as Canada geese, herons, kingfishers, and cormorants. It also hosts the largest bird banding station on the Atlantic Flyway, where thousands of geese and ducks are tagged annually to support North American conservation efforts.

The Sanctuary’s 8-kilometre trail network and diverse habitats make it ideal for birdwatchers, families, and outdoor enthusiasts during peak migration. Visitors might also spot migrating bats, butterflies, and beneficial insects that rely on the area’s unique ecosystem.

Managed by the St. Lawrence Parks Commission, the parks offer everything from premium waterfront campsites to hiking trails and upcoming prospector tents. Guests are reminded to follow park rules to help protect local wildlife.
