A single-vehicle collision in Portland led to impaired driving charges on Wednesday, November 19th, shortly after midnight. Leeds County OPP responded after being alerted that a driver was trapped following the crash. Assistance was provided by Leeds and Grenville Paramedic Services and Rideau Lakes Fire Department, and the driver was extricated with only minor injuries.
The 17-year-old driver, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, provided breath samples well above the legal limit. Charges include operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration, driving with liquor readily available, and novice driver – blood alcohol above zero.
