Both projects received $1,000
Two Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) student groups have been named regional winners in the national Ingenious+ youth innovation challenge.
The Thousand Islands Secondary School (TISS) “Treasure Chest” project helps students in need with food, clothing, and hygiene items, while protecting their dignity. They also partner with the school’s hospitality class to provide hot lunches every week.
At Gananoque Secondary School (GSS), the “Young Company Student Mentors” program blends arts and trades education through a theatre partnership with Thousand Islands Playhouse. This year, students welcomed elementary students into their workshop to teach painting, sewing, carpentry, and more.
Both projects received $1,000 and now move on to the national Ingenious+ competition, where they could win up to $10,000 and gain valuable mentorship.
UCDSB leaders praised the students’ creativity, leadership, and impact on their communities.
National winners will be announced during Canadian Innovation Week, May 26–30, in Ottawa.
