Suspect taken into custody after tense day for local residents
Hours-long manhunt in Maitland ends with suspect in custody
A tense afternoon in Maitland ended safely after a wanted man was taken into police custody around 6 p.m.
Grenville OPP had urged residents to stay indoors for hours as officers searched for a potentially armed suspect. The man, described as white with scruffy blonde hair and a beard, was last seen wearing a white shirt and red or brown shorts.
Police deployed a heavy presence, including the Canine Unit, and worked closely with school officials to redirect buses and keep children safe.
The manhunt prompted a series of urgent public alerts, with OPP updating the suspect’s clothing description midway through the search.
By late afternoon, the OPP confirmed the suspect was found and arrested without incident. Residents were thanked for their patience and cooperation.
Police are now clearing the area, and no further threat remains. Authorities have not released further details about the suspect or charges.
