Melanie Jones, Fire Chief at the Brockville Fire Department, says drivers should take extra precautions during the cold months.
Common causes of winter vehicle fires include overheating from overloaded cars, electrical issues in cold weather, thermal runaway in electric vehicle batteries, poor maintenance, and environmental damage such as cracked plastics or shrinking parts. Drivers are urged to check their vehicles carefully before heading out.
She also emphasized other winter safety steps residents should consider.
Jones stressed the importance of keeping an emergency kit in your vehicle.
