Augusta’s new community garden has a hidden game and space to grow

Officials hope the garden will grow into a shared space for learning, gardening and community connection

The Township of Augusta is inviting residents to connect with nature through a new community garden that combines gardening, environmental education and a fun pollinator hunt.

The garden features pollinator-friendly plants selected with help from the Augusta and Area Butterflyway Committee. Its sign also includes an I-Spy game, encouraging visitors to spot pollinators on both sides while learning about their importance to the local ecosystem.

Garden boxes will be available to rent in spring 2027, giving residents a chance to grow fruits, vegetables and flowers, regardless of their gardening experience.

Students from South Grenville District High School helped build the garden boxes, creating opportunities for future hands-on learning. The township hopes to expand its educational partnership with the high school and local public school.

The project was developed by the Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee, with support from community partners, including Community Futures Grenville, which accepted the township’s grant application.

Officials hope the garden will grow into a shared space for learning, gardening and community connection.
