Deschamps and his council will officially be sworn in on November 16 at 11 a.m. at the Spencerville Fire Station
Residents of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal had little voting to do in this year's municipal election, as the mayor, deputy mayor and all three council members were acclaimed.
The newly acclaimed council now looks ahead to the next term, hoping to build on the work started over the past four years.
Mayor Tory Deschamps spoke about his top priority for the next four years.
Deschamps said other priorities include being fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars, paving roads, improving recreation and supporting economic development.
He also wants to focus on getting affordable housing built in the area, something the municipality was unable to accomplish during the last term.
This year's acclamation marks Deschamps' first time returning to office without an election.
Deschamps said he doesn't see being acclaimed as a sign of public confidence.
He said he is proud to serve another four years, but enjoys the campaigning, competition and democracy that come with an actual election.
Since Edwardsburgh/Cardinal residents only cast ballots for school board trustees, Deschamps also weighed in on voter turnout across the province.
Approximately 36 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots in Ontario's 2026 municipal election.
Deschamps said while some people may not be happy with that number, he is pleased that about one-third of the population chose to take part.
He said he would like to see turnout improve in the next election, but is content knowing people are getting involved and exercising their right to vote.
Deschamps said he is honoured to serve Edwardsburgh/Cardinal as mayor again and hopes to make residents proud.
Deschamps and his council will officially be sworn in on November 16 at 11 a.m. at the Spencerville Fire Station. Residents are welcome to attend.
