Grenville County OPP is getting $187,500 from the Ontario government to fight auto theft and target organized crime as the province reports a drop in vehicle thefts.
The funding was announced by Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, through Ontario’s Preventing Auto Thefts Grant Program.
The province says vehicle theft has fallen 36 per cent from its peak in 2023.
Clark said the funding will help build on that progress.
Inspector Lisa Nicholas said the money will support intelligence-led policing, improve information sharing and strengthen co-operation with municipal partners across Grenville County. The initiative also aims to improve vehicle recovery and reduce victimization.
Clark said police need the tools and resources to continue fighting theft and protecting communities.
Ontario is investing another $6 million in 22 police projects through the program in 2026-27, bringing its total investment to $24 million since 2023.
The program also funds specialized training, investigative tools and public education initiatives.
