Youth charges raise alarm as police crack down on intimate image sharing in Leeds County

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers

Two youths have been charged following a child sexual abuse material investigation in Leeds County, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

Police say the investigation began March 31 after school officials reported intimate images involving a young person.

As a result, two female youths under 18 are facing charges related to possessing and distributing child sexual abuse and exploitation material, along with distributing intimate images without consent.

Both accused have been released and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville at a later date.

Police note five youths have been charged with similar offences in recent weeks across the region, raising concern among investigators.

The OPP is urging parents and guardians to speak with youth about the risks and consequences of sharing intimate images.

Officers will also be visiting local schools to provide education sessions.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
