A costly number is raising new questions about Brockville policing

Overall overtime hours were up by nearly 1,492 hours year-over-year

Brockville Police are facing a major budget pressure only five months into the year.

A financial update presented to the Brockville Police Services Board shows the service is projected to finish 2026 about $551,883 over budget.

The numbers were current as of May 31. At that point, the service had used 48.9 per cent of its total budget.

The biggest concern is police operations, which are projected to end the year about $454,659 over budget. Court services are also under pressure, with 89.8 per cent of that budget already used by the end of May.

Overtime is one of the main reasons for the shortfall. The service had already spent $258,634 on overtime by the end of May. That is 108.4 per cent of the amount set aside for the full year.

Patrol overtime has also climbed sharply. Officers had worked 2,654.5 patrol overtime hours by the end of May, compared with 1,562 hours at the same point in 2025.

Overall overtime hours were up by nearly 1,492 hours year-over-year.

The police board received the update at its June 23 meeting.

The pressure comes after Brockville Police presented a 2026 overall budget of about $11.84 million, including operating, capital maintenance, fleet and equipment costs.
