This Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
Residents in Upstate New York are organizing an “Elbows Up for Canada” rally on July 5 to show support for their Canadian neighbours.
The event, called the “Friendship Flotilla,” will begin at 1 p.m. at Ogdensburg City Hall. From there, boaters will travel along the St. Lawrence River with Canadian and American flags and signs of unity.
Boaters will stop at Fort Wellington in Prescott, then continue to Brockville and Morrisburg. Non-boaters will gather at Morrisette Park to wave across the river. Prescott residents are invited to view the flotilla at 2 p.m. from the Heritage River Trail.
Organizer Eileen Jarrett says the rally is about friendship, not politics. Blake Gendebien, a Democrat running for Congress, will speak.
Similar rallies will take place across the U.S. and in London, England. Boldt Castle will light up red on Canada Day in support.
Ogdensburg and Brockville mayors have voiced their support.
