Officials say the transition is expected to be seamless for residents, who will continue to dial 911 in an emergency
Brockville emergency services are preparing for a shift to Next Generation 9-1-1, a modern digital system aimed at improving emergency response across Canada.
The Brockville Fire Department, Brockville Police Service and Leeds Grenville Paramedic Services are expected to transition as part of a national rollout launched in 2023.
With more, here’s Brockville Fire Chief Melanie Jones.
She said the change is like going from analog to digital to keep up with current technology trends.
She highlighted expected benefits for emergency response and public safety.
It has set a deadline for phone companies to be NG9-1-1 ready by March 2027.
Some Ontario cities, including Ottawa, Kingston and Belleville, have already made the switch.
Officials say the transition is expected to be seamless for residents, who will continue to dial 911 in an emergency.
