Residents reflect on her contributions and legacy within the community and across Canada for future generations
Brockville is mourning the loss of Edith MacFarlane, a Second World War veteran who died at the age of 103, Mayor Matt Wren said Tuesday.
Wren shared the news in a public statement, noting MacFarlane was one of the community’s few remaining veterans from the war. He recalled attending her 100th birthday celebration in 2022, one of his first official events after taking office.
MacFarlane was a familiar presence at local Legion functions, where Wren said she was always a delight to visit. Her service will continue to be recognized in the city when her veterans banner is displayed on King Street during Remembrance Day ceremonies.
MacFarlane’s long life and military service are being remembered as part of Brockville’s history, as residents reflect on her contributions and legacy within the community and across Canada for future generations.
