An addition to Brockville’s waterfront is finally moving ahead, with construction of a new pavilion and boardwalk at Reynolds Park set to begin this month.
The $789,000 project will include a pavilion named in honour of former Brockville mayor Ben TeKamp, who played an important role in discussions and negotiations that helped the city acquire the property.
TeKamp served as mayor from 1997 to 2006 and passed away in 2014. He was also a longtime supporter of public waterfront access and had a connection to the neighbouring Brockville Rowing Club.
With more details on the project, here’s Mayor Matt Wren.
The project was previously delayed because of regulatory challenges.
Wren explains what caused the delay and how it was resolved.
The city says the project is being funded through its capital budget.
The Brockville Rotary Clubs also contributed more than $75,000 through an engraved brick fundraising campaign. The Rotary gear will be displayed prominently inside the new pavilion.
Work is being carried out by Kehoe Construction, with the project expected to be completed in December.
