The Brockville Police Service has added four new Special Constables to its team, strengthening patrols and support for daily calls.
The hiring comes after the Community Safety and Policing Act took effect in April 2024. The new law expanded the role of Special Constables, giving them authority to help with key police duties. Their responsibilities now include crime scene security, traffic control and enforcement, prisoner care, and conducting neighbourhood canvasses to gather information.
The broader scope allows police officers to focus on critical tasks while Special Constables provide direct assistance in the field. To prepare, recruits complete academic instruction, practical exercises, use-of-force training, and examinations.
The successful candidates are Aiden Chapman, Hana Gazdik, Matthew White, and Zachary Williams.
Brockville Police say the addition of Special Constables will help deliver fair, professional service to the community while ensuring officers can respond effectively to urgent needs.
