The Brockville area is seeing an increase in impaired driving as the holiday season approaches, according to local police.
Darryl Boyd, Patrol and Operations Inspector at the Brockville Police Service, said impaired driving penalties have risen over the years, and officers are working to keep roads safe.
Boyd said it is difficult to pinpoint exactly why impaired driving cases are increasing, but explained improved officer training is helping police detect impaired drivers more effectively.
As Christmas and New Year’s approach, police will launch more roadside checks.
Boyd said the Brockville Police Service will increase the number of ride programs in the coming weeks to find and deter impaired drivers.
