Brockville Police are warning residents to stay alert after a distraction-style theft led to the loss of a valuable necklace on Pearl Street West.
Police say the incident happened around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday when a black SUV stopped in front of a home. A man driving the vehicle and a woman seated in the back asked the homeowner for directions to a nearby Catholic church.
While speaking with the resident, the female suspect offered a piece of gold jewelry to try on. Police allege the suspect removed the homeowner’s necklace without permission and replaced it with a fake piece before the pair drove away westbound on Pearl Street.
Meanwhile, Brockville Police and the OPP TIME Team recently completed a joint traffic enforcement blitz that resulted in 45 charges. Offences included speeding, stunt driving, seatbelt violations, driving without a license and insurance-related offences. Several vehicles were also towed or impounded.
