Coming into effect tomorrow
The Brockville Fire Department is urging residents to prepare for new provincial carbon monoxide (CO) alarm requirements coming into effect tomorrow.
Fire Chief Melanie Jones highlighted the upcoming changes.
The new rules also apply to apartments and multi-unit residential buildings.
CO alarms will be required in units with fuel-burning appliances, units heated by air circulated from such appliances, and units located beside, above, or below service rooms or attached garages. Public corridors heated by fuel-burning systems must also have alarms.
Jones emphasized the importance of carbon monoxide alarms in keeping residents safe.
She also explained the symptoms of CO exposure.
Fire officials say the changes aim to improve public safety and reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Residents are encouraged to check their alarms, replace any expired units, and get ready as the new rules take effect.
