Ontario Provincial Police say a 59-year-old Kemptville man is facing impaired driving charges after allegedly calling officers for help with traffic control on Highway 417.
Police said the man contacted Ottawa OPP after reporting that his vehicle had broken down near Vanier today.
Investigators later determined the vehicle had struck a sign in Ottawa before the driver left the scene before officers arrived, police said.
Officers suspected the driver had consumed alcohol and used a roadside screening device before taking him to the Ottawa detachment for additional testing.
The man was charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired with a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit.
Police suspended his driver’s license for 90 days and impounded the vehicle for seven days while the case proceeds through court.
The charges have not been tested in court, and police did not release the accused driver's name publicly today.
