On August 12th
Ontario Provincial Police stopped a vehicle on Highway 417 shortly before 7 p.m. yesterday (Aug. 12) after a licence plate reader flagged an expired permit.
Officers discovered the driver had a suspended licence and only a G1, which does not allow solo driving. The vehicle’s registered owner was the passenger — and also held only a G1 licence.
Police say the vehicle was uninsured at the time. The driver now faces a minimum $2,000 fine for driving while suspended, along with several other charges. The owner was also charged for allowing someone to drive without insurance and could face a minimum $5,000 fine.
The vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The OPP is reminding all drivers that operating a vehicle without proper documentation, insurance and a valid licence carries serious consequences.
