Augusta Fire Rescue said it will continue monitoring conditions closely
Fire danger levels across Eastern Ontario have reached high to extreme ratings, prompting Augusta Fire Rescue to urge residents to avoid open burning whenever possible.
In a release issued June 4, Augusta Fire Rescue said the Ministry of Natural Resources, through the Canadian Wildland Fire Information System, has classified fire conditions in the region as HIGH to EXTREME.
Despite the elevated risk, the township is not introducing a burn ban at this time because significant rainfall is forecast for the weekend.
Officials are asking residents to follow all burn permit conditions and only conduct open burning when absolutely necessary.
The fire department warned that ongoing dry conditions can cause fires to spread quickly and unpredictably, increasing the risk of damage to property and natural areas.
Augusta Fire Rescue said it will continue monitoring conditions closely and could introduce burn restrictions if expected rainfall does not arrive or if fire danger levels worsen in the coming days.
