Brockville Police say drivers across the region should expect more Festive RIDE checkpoints this month as officers work to stop impaired drivers before they cause serious harm. Constable Daryl Boyd says the service is seeing troubling numbers again this year and is urging the public to help keep roads safe.
In a Facebook video, Boyd says impaired driving charges continue to rise in the community.
The annual Festive RIDE Campaign, led by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, asks police services across Ontario to increase roadside checks during the holiday season. Boyd says the goal is simple: reduce impaired driving through visibility, education and enforcement.
He is also calling on residents to take action when they see unsafe behaviour on the road.
Police say people heading out to holiday gatherings should plan ahead by arranging a ride, calling a cab or staying overnight.
The Brockville Police Service hopes everyone enjoys a safe, responsible holiday season.
