South Grenville District High School students have turned a simple classroom project into a thriving business called Giants Ink. The Grade 7 and 8 students launched the custom apparel venture through the Upper Canada District School Board’s Real-World Learning program, with guidance from teacher Andrew Carson.
Giants Ink designs and produces shirts, decals and stickers for local businesses, schools and community groups, including apparel for the Spencerville Kraft Hockeyville campaign. After successfully pitching a business plan, the students received funding for a professional printer, helping them expand their work and boost production quality.
Beyond running a successful business, students are learning design, marketing and budgeting while donating 10 per cent of profits to Connect Youth, a Leeds and Grenville charity. Now entering their second year, the young entrepreneurs are preparing to mentor new students and continue building their growing enterprise.
