As the holiday season approaches, Canadian households are seeing a rise in festive cooking, and a higher risk of kitchen fires.
The Canada Safety Council warns that unattended cooking is the leading cause of home fires, particularly during the holidays.
Melanie Jones, Fire Chief at the Brockville Fire Department, echoed these concerns.
She highlighted a few more risks that can cause kitchen fires during holiday cooking.
She also emphasized the importance of using timers when cooking.
Statistics Canada reports that unattended cooking caused nearly a third of all home fires from 2015 to 2021.
With kitchens and homes busier than ever this holiday season, Brockville residents are being urged to stay vigilant to prevent accidents.
