Janne Ritskes has been named the Municipality of North Grenville's 2026 Senior of the Year in recognition of a lifetime of community service and support for people living in poverty.
The award, created by the Province of Ontario, is presented annually by municipalities to recognize outstanding seniors for their contributions to their communities.
Ritskes received the honour during a presentation attended by Mayor Nancy Peckford, Deputy Mayor John Barclay, Councillor Debbie Wilson and MPP Steve Clark. Clark congratulated Ritskes on behalf of Ontario Minister for Seniors and Accessibility Raymond Cho.
According to Clark, Ritskes has dedicated her life to supporting people living in poverty around the world and has been a champion of the Shalom Small Homes initiative in Kemptville.
Clark described the recognition as well deserved and congratulated Ritskes on receiving the municipality's annual honour for her service and commitment to improving the lives of others in North Grenville and beyond.
