The burn ban has been in effect since last week
A Level 5 full Burn Ban in now in effect in the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands.
The decision comes in response to ongoing dry conditions that have significantly increased the risk of fire throughout the area.
Under the ban, all open-air burning is strictly prohibited. This includes brush piles, incinerators, burn barrels, campfires, cooking fires, and the use of fireworks. The only exceptions are appliances equipped with an automatic shut-off mechanism, such as propane-fueled barbecues and similar devices.
Residents are urged to take the restrictions seriously and help reduce the risk of wildfires during this period. Leeds Fire officials will continue to monitor conditions closely and will lift the ban once it is safe to do so.
