The situation remains ongoing as discussions continue at the board level
CUPE 4154 and the Ontario School Board Council of Unions are criticizing planned staffing cuts by the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario, saying the changes could affect students and education workers across the region.
The unions say close to 20 jobs and several student support services are at risk, impacting nearly 300 education workers.
Local MPP Steve Clark responded to their concerns, saying layoff notices are given out every year until enrollment is confirmed.
He assured that there is no need to panic, as soon as enrollment is decided upon, the issue will be moot.
Clark also spoke directly to anyone concerned about staffing and funding.
Clark said he is satisfied with the amount of funding the Ontario government has given to schools across the province.
The situation remains ongoing.
