It's time for our daily look at Mental Health Week in Canada - presented by: Disability Tax Consultants of Canada.
Mental health can be difficult to manage and keep in balance, but support is available for residents across the region.
According to Chris Curry, Program Director of Planning and Implementation at Lanark Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health, prevention plays a key role in maintaining good mental well-being.
Curry warns that vices such as alcohol and substance use may seem like a quick solution, but they often create more problems over time. He notes that gambling, a relatively newer concern, has also become another harmful outlet for people who are struggling.
Instead, Curry encourages people to focus on positive activities. Simple actions like going for a bike ride can help boost dopamine levels in a healthier way.
He adds that staying active and getting involved in the community can have a strong impact on improving mental health.
For those facing more serious challenges, Curry says it is important to seek professional help and not try to manage everything alone.
Maintaining mental health can bring many benefits, from improved mood to better overall well-being.
Lanark Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health offers a range of services, including counselling, case management and psychiatry.
The organization can be reached in person at 25 Front Ave. W. or by phone at 866-499-8445.
