The festival runs at Blockhouse Park, beside the Rideau Canal, offering a relaxed weekend celebrating local creativity, live entertainment and community spirit
Visitors looking for a free summer outing will find plenty to explore at the Merrickville Festival of the Arts this weekend.
The annual event returns to Blockhouse Park with a full lineup of local musicians, artists, theatre and family activities. Admission is free, giving residents and visitors a chance to enjoy original performances while supporting artists from across the region.
It starts at 10 am on Saturday, and wraps up Sunday at 5pm.
That's Anya Perry, owner of Maple Music and music programmer for the festival.
Perry says the weekend will feature about 30 artists displaying and selling their work. Families can also enjoy a children's art tent, music programming for young audiences and live performances by the Merrickville Community Theatre Group.
The entertainment lineup focuses on original music performed by local artists from communities including Merrickville, Smiths Falls, Kemptville, Brockville and Ottawa.
And Perry says anyone attending is best to come prepared, because it's a full day of entertainment.
The festival is organized by the Merrickville Organization for Culture and the Arts (MOCA), which has presented the event for six years. While admission remains free, donations will be accepted near the stage in support of the Merrickville Food Cupboard.
