Construction is expected to begin in 2028, with the school projected to open in September 2030
The Ontario government is investing $28.1 million to build a new school in Augusta Township that will replace Maynard Public School and Wellington Elementary School.
The project, announced Monday by Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark and local officials, will create modern classrooms for 435 students and include 127 licensed childcare spaces.
The new school is expected to serve families in Augusta Township, Prescott and the surrounding South Grenville area. Officials said the project is the result of years of collaboration between municipal leaders, the Upper Canada District School Board and the province.
UCDSB officials welcomed the funding, saying the new facility will provide a modern learning environment for current and future students. Local leaders also highlighted the addition of childcare spaces, calling it an important investment for growing communities.
Pending final approvals, the school will be built near the Alaine Chartrand Community Centre in Prescott. Construction is expected to begin in 2028, with the school projected to open in September 2030.
