Recent changes to provincial carbon monoxide rules are prompting the Brockville Fire Department to warn residents about potential fines.
The updated requirements took effect Jan. 1. Fire Chief Melanie Jones outlined the new rules.
Jones said using combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms is an easy way for residents to meet the new standards.
She said the department prefers to focus on education and awareness before issuing penalties.
Jones explained the level of fines that can be issued if residents refuse to comply.
