The Ontario government is investing $264,747 in Leeds and Grenville to support local theatre, tourism and jobs.
Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, said the funding will flow through the Ontario Arts Council. The Thousand Islands Playhouse will receive $245,260, while the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival will receive $19,487.
Clark said performing arts play an important role in building strong communities and attracting visitors to Gananoque and Prescott.
Brett Christopher of the Thousand Islands Playhouse said the funding will support high-quality productions and community programs. Ingrid Bjornson of the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival said the grant will help keep performances accessible and draw visitors to the St. Lawrence River each summer.
Tourism, Culture and Gaming Minister Stan Cho said investing in local theatre strengthens communities and boosts economic activity across Ontario.
