The Ontario Provincial Police say turnaround times for online police record checks have improved significantly following a series of operational changes aimed at addressing previous delays.
In 2025, the OPP experienced a backlog that saw processing times rise to between 12 and 14 weeks. Officials say the issue prompted an internal review of the Online Police Record Checks Unit, along with updates to procedures and additional staffing resources to manage demand.
As a result, current average turnaround times have been reduced to approximately 10 days, well below the service standard of 30 days. The OPP notes that processing times may still increase during peak periods but remain within the established target.
Applicants are encouraged to use the online system, as detachment staff are unable to process record checks locally. Support is available through the OPP’s dedicated contact channels for questions related to applications.
