Drivers urged to “pack their patience” and keep cell phones out of reach while behind the wheel
The Ontario Provincial Police is reminding residents across eastern Ontario to stay safe on the roads and waterways as traffic picks up for the Victoria Day long weekend.
OPP Sgt. Erin Cranton said officers will be watching closely for dangerous driving behaviours as people travel to cottages, campgrounds and family gatherings.
Police will be focusing enforcement on alcohol and drug-impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving and seat belt violations.
Cranton said drivers should remember they are responsible for everyone on the road, not just themselves and their passengers. “We want everyone to get to their destination safely,”
The OPP is also preparing for a busy boating weekend as more residents head onto lakes and rivers. Cranton warned that water temperatures remain dangerously cold this time of year and encouraged everyone on boats to wear life jackets.
Cranton also urged drivers to “pack their patience” and keep cell phones out of reach while behind the wheel.
