The Ontario Provincial Police are reminding residents that heat can become deadly in parked vehicles in a matter of minutes as temperatures rise across the province.
Police say even on mild days, the interior of a vehicle can quickly become 20 degrees hotter than the outside temperature, even with windows slightly open. Children and pets are particularly vulnerable to heatstroke, brain injury, or death due to their limited ability to regulate body temperature.
Officials stress that prevention is simple—never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a short time.
