MPP Clark responded with a written statement
OPSEU-represented workers from three local agencies staged a protest outside MPP Steve Clark’s Brockville constituency office Wednesday as part of a provincewide labour action.
Workers from Brockville and Area Community Living Association, Lanark Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health, and Community and Mental Health Services of Leeds and Grenville took part in the demonstration.
Organizers said the protest was intended to highlight concerns about wages and funding in the social services sector. They argue workers are struggling to keep pace with rising costs while agencies face ongoing funding pressures.
Protesters were asked to leave the property by the building manager during the demonstration.
In a written statement, MPP Clark said:
“I have been a strong advocate for increased funding for local agencies that deliver developmental services and mental health and addictions services in our community. As I’ve indicated previously, this year’s Ontario budget delivers historic levels of provincial funding to these sectors.
Collective bargaining is a matter between the employer and the union, and I encourage both sides to work towards an agreement to end this labour disruption."
